Most marketplace software assumes a card, a dollar and a courier. That assumption is the reason so much of it never leaves a pilot.

The rails people actually use

Paystack in Nigeria, MTN and Orange mobile money in Cameroon. Mobile money is a pull, not a redirect — the customer approves on their handset and the order waits for the debit rather than assuming it.

Money that survives XAF

Every amount is an integer in minor units with an explicit exponent. XAF has no subunit, so anything that assumes a hundred is wrong by a factor of a hundred. Nothing here assumes it.

Verification per jurisdiction

A Nigerian vendor supplies a BVN and a ten-digit NUBAN. A Cameroonian vendor supplies a CNI, NIU or RCCM and a mobile money number with an operator. Both are configuration, not a branch in the code.

A ledger, not a balance column

Double-entry, with settlement windows, payout batches and reconciliation. You can answer where any vendor's money is and why, which is the question that arrives at the worst possible moment.

Your data, in your own database

Each marketplace gets its own database — not a shared table with a tenant column. Your catalogue, your customers and your orders cannot be read from another operator's marketplace because they are not in the same place.
